Ms. Jillian Chen
Ballet Teacher
Ms Jillian Chen is a dedicated ballet educator and professionally trained dancer whose journey in ballet has been shaped by years of rigorous classical training in Singapore and Europe.
Her passion for teaching began at a young age. Even as a student, Jillian found great fulfilment in helping younger dancers understand ballet technique, movement and musicality. This early interest in teaching has remained a constant throughout her development as a dancer and has become an important part of her artistic journey.
Jillian began her intensive ballet training at Yan Ballet Academy in Singapore, where she trained rigorously under Ms Yan and Ms Fan. Her years of training under their guidance established the technical discipline, strength, musicality and attention to detail that form the foundation of her classical ballet practice.
In 2024, Jillian was accepted into the Staatliche Ballett- und Artistikschule Berlin (State Ballet School and School of Artistry, Berlin), where she undertook three years of professional dance training. The school is a professional institution whose ballet programme is designed to prepare dancers for the demands of classical and contemporary stage performance.
Her training in Berlin gave Jillian invaluable exposure to the discipline and standards of a professional European ballet environment. It further developed her technical foundation, physical strength, musicality, artistic expression and understanding of the demands placed upon a professional dancer.
Jillian has performed with the Singapore Youth Ballet Company, including taking on a main lead role in Path After The Storm in 2023.
Her extensive competition experience includes the World Ballet Grand Prix, Asian Grand Prix, Youth America Grand Prix, Masterpiece International Ballet Competition, Singapore International Dance Festival and other international competitions. Among her achievements are numerous Gold awards, national titles, championship titles, scholarships and invitations to international ballet training programmes. These opportunities have allowed her to experience a wide range of training environments and to learn from teachers and professionals from different ballet traditions.
Rather than viewing these achievements simply as accolades, Jillian considers each experience an important part of her education as a dancer — teaching her discipline, perseverance, resilience, musicality and the importance of consistent technical training.
Jillian brings to her teaching the perspective of someone who has experienced ballet training from the student’s side — from the early stages of learning basic positions and coordination, through intensive competition preparation, stage performance and professional-level training in Europe. Her goal is to pass on not only the technical knowledge she has gained, but also the values that ballet has taught her throughout her own journey.
With a deep passion for teaching and a commitment to continued professional development, Jillian hopes to inspire the next generation of dancers to build strong foundations, pursue excellence with discipline and, above all, discover the joy and beauty of ballet.
